Being Jesus

Klaas Kuiken was invited by SALON/ (platform for talents from the fields of fashion, design, art and culture) to make a sculpture for their SALON/Big Bang exhibition. This exhibition was about ideas shaped by man and nature; the big bang, belief, faith, superstition, disbelief, madness, desire, spirituality, ritual and devotion.

Klaas collaborated with interaction designer/ web developer Peter van der West and created an interactive statue of Jesus. Visitors of De Oude Kerk in Amsterdam could upload their selfie portrait to a special website designed for this project, using their smartphone. Within 5 seconds the uploaded portrait was visible on the big sculpture, so everybody could be Jesus for a day.

Being Jesus is a project about religion in the 'selfie age' and questions the meaning of religion in our modern day society.

The statue was shown at De Oude Kerk Amsterdam
